Dev Log <3 - Faye

The theme for the prototype this week was control, so I wanted to make sure the player had control of the character and their choices. I made it so you must press e to leave the room instead instantly leaving when the trigger is entered. This gave the player a sense of control over what was happening, aswell as the basic movement controls using WASD.
For the environment, I wanted to create a dark and almost ominous atmosphere. The player should feel unsure about progressing forward as the character does not want to go to college. I created a basic repeating background for the outside area, so the player testers have a larger space to walk around.
I wanted it to be raining to help create a richer environment, I did this by putting a particle effect on the camera as it follows the player. I spent awhile changing the settings to get it how I liked it. After playtesting, i am not sure if the rain should be thinner. Adding post processing onto the outside scene really improved the impact the environment had on the players, this got great feedback during the playtest.
When I drew the more polished design for the character sprite, I chose a bright colour for their coat, do they would stand out against the dark environment. I really liked the contrast this created.
I aim to have the characters walk cycle completed and in game by next week!
