Vertical slice and struggles :) - Faye

Our vertical slice has begun to develop smoothly; we were able to create a simple environment with our core mechanics. We chose to focus on the interaction mechanic as this is essential to progress through out game. The player will interact with things in the house to learn more about the character. They also interact with an umbrella and make a choice whether to take it with them before leaving the house.

Currently the backgrounds are rough sketches, but this week I hope to have more polished versions for the next test.

From the vertical slice we learned that the greyscale background looks better than the colourful backgrounds. We found that the character against the white had much more contrast instead of the blue/purple hue of the bedroom.

The art style is working well for the project and people seem to like it, the main character has a horizontal walk cycle now and soon will have a forward walk as well. The forward walk animation has been a struggle for me as I have never animated a walk cycle from that angle before. I chose to do the forward animation before the back as i felt it would be harder and I wanted to dedicate more time to it.

A struggle we are facing currently is the camera and how it should follow the character. We need to restrict the camera to a certain area so it can follow the character without going out of bounds.
